WIN A PAIR TICKETS TO THE NPOs BRAHMS CONCERT

MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND TREAT 25 and 26th March 2017

In a first for the NPO they are presenting a complete cycle of Brahms’ four symphonies over one weekend.

The last time such a cycle was performed in Nottingham was by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.  As this was over 30 years ago they believe that a repeat is well overdue!

The four symphonies are a pinnacle of Brahms’ career, and of music in the 19th century. They cover a wide range of emotions, from the stern drama of the first through the joy of the second, the nostalgic reflection of the third to the power of the fourth.

This is a rare event, not to be missed.

We have FOUR PAIRS of tickets up for grabs for one of our lucky customers, simply place your order in store or online, and you’ll be automatically put in the draw to win – they’d make a great addition to your Mothers Day gift – the concert being Mothers Day weekend !

You get one entry per order.

Alternatively, retweet our Twitter post or like our Facebook post on the concert to for another chance to be entered in the draw.  One entry allowed.

International Womens Day – 8 March 2017

International Women’s Day (IWD), also called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. (read more about International Womens Day on Wikipedia)

In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements.

Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily in Europe, including Russia.

Women in Saint Petersburg went on strike that day in 1917 for “Bread and Peace” – demanding the end of World War I, an end to Russian food shortages, and the end of czarism.

The political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations still runs strong in many regions, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

In Italy, the day is known as “Festa Della Donna” where the custom is to give yellow mimosa flowers to women, the tradition dating back to the mid 1940s with men giving their wives, mothers, daughters, and other women friends sprigs of bright yellow Mimosa flowers on March 8.

So why not choose something from our Yellow Collection, to celebrate the women in your life.?

Valentines Day Gifts

With Valentine’s Day falling on a Tuesday this year you have every opportunity to ‘wow them at work’ and have your gift delivered to your lover at work – and we’re here to help you make thing go with a bang !

Size Matters

Size Matters

Our Size Matters campaign advises you to be careful when considering your Valentine’s Gift. This year is no different, so please remember that not all roses are the same, and some roses that are being sold this Valentine’s, in our honest opinion, do not “measure up”.

You’ve probably already been bombarded with emails from either your local supermarket, department store, clothing retailer, chocolate shop, or other ‘flower delivery company’ offering 12 Roses for £19.99, or a Deluxe Selection of 12 Luxury Roses for £39.99 – forget it !

Some of these (dare we say) “cheap” roses are shorter than others, have smaller heads, and most will be delivered in a cardbox box … Nice !

But don’t just take our word for it, we’ve put together a useful guide to help you make an informed choice.

Our Valentines Collection

We have a huge range of gifts to send to your Valentine, from the traditional rose bouquet, to luxury bouquets of lilies. Our ‘Bundles of Love’ come with a range of extras, including  Bears, Chocolates, Soft Toys, Balloons and lots more.

The ultimate gift for some ‘Good Lovin’, our ‘LovePack range combines four or five gifts into one complete discounted package. In addition, we have a range of Champagnes, Wines and Greetings cards making us your ‘one-stop-shop’

Delivered Personally by Hand ….Not in a cardboard box

Delivered pesonally by hand - Not in a box

Delivered pesonally by hand – Not in a cardboard box

Many flower delivery companies are manufacturing their bouquets in warehouses, putting them in cardboard boxes and delivering them by overnight courier or even posting them to recipients. Lots of care and attention there then (not).
Often you really don’t know how your floral gift is produced or sent. In fact, many recipients will actually receive a very different service from the one you thought you were paying for.

We have seen the results of some online flower delivery companies, you may be equally surprised at the results – Have a look at our website for details….. (warning … it isn’t pretty !)

All our gifts are given the personal touch, from the hand writing of your gift card, to the creation of your gift by one of our experienced florists, right through the the personal delivery by one of our own key delivery drivers.

Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra – Next Concert Saturday October 15 7.30pm

Nottingham Philharmonic 0pen their new season with a celebration of the richness and variety of music that the piano can offer.

Contrast Stravinsky’s energy and dynamism with the tunefulness and sheer variety in Britten’s only concerto for the instrument.

Prokofiev’s third concerto is his most popular, lyrical and moving, and we end with Stravinsky’s brilliant Firebird Suite.

The concert will be held in the Albert Hall Nottingham, at 7.30pm on Saturday 15 October 2016.

British Flowers Week 2016 #britishflowersweek

#britishflowersweek

We are delighted to announce that British Flowers Week 2016 will run from Monday 13 June to Sunday 19 June.

British Flowers Week is the annual nationwide celebration of British cut flower growers and the skilled independent florists they supply to showcase the best of British flowers, foliages and floristry.

British cut flowers are back in fashion, fuelled by the rise of artisan flower growers, such as the Flowers from the Farm network, and the trend for vintage, seasonality, fragrance and more naturalistic design.

Nonetheless, British-grown flowers are still thought to represent less than 15% of the £2bn worth of flowers sold in the UK every year.

“British Flowers Week has become an exciting showcase for all that is truly brilliant about British flower growers and the independent British florist,” says Helen Evans, Director of Communications at New Covent Garden Flower Market, the driving force behind the British Flowers Week campaign. “In the hands of professionals, British flowers and foliages are revealed at their inspirational best.”

In June 2015, British Flowers Week workshops, talks and floral demonstrations took place in flower shops, on flower farms and in event venues up and down the country. There were British cut flowers in Downing Street, in stately homes and RHS gardens, whilst on Social Media the hashtag #BritishFlowersWeek lit up, reaching 5.4 million on Twitter alone. We hope that 2016 will be bigger and better!

We will keep you informed of the events, images and designs of British Flowers Week over the next few days.

Christmas & New Year Opening Hours – 2015/2016

bannerchristmas[1]

The majority of the flowers sold in the UK are imported from Holland. The last fresh flower delivery from Holland will be made just before Christmas Eve. Therefore a limited amount of fresh flowers will be imported into the UK, and due to this, several of our key suppliers are also closed during this period.

Some of the flowers that are sold after Christmas and into the New Year could be at least 5 days old and therefore may not be in the best condition.

We are not in the business of selling “old” flowers, so we will be closed from 25 December 2015 and will re-open on Tuesday 5th January 2016 with completely fresh stock.
